“A seminary education should be available to anyone who is called to ministry.” So states the distance education webpage at Earlham School of Religion, which continues with the school’s sensitivity to schedule demands and geographic challenges facing adult students. The webpage continues by indicating the character traits of successful distance learners; the synchronous courses are administered by the same faculty as on-campus courses because they are the same on-campus courses being accessed virtually through the school’s technology connections. ESR also uses a Moodle model for asynchronous content delivery if schedules prohibit remote class attendance. Students can achieve master’s degrees in divinity and ministry online through virtual attendance of classes. Resources specifically for the distance student include document delivery of textbooks and articles that are not available online and access to relevant academic databases.
