The School of Business at Plymouth State University has a mission to “prepare students for professional success in corporate and nonprofit institutions.” The programs are focused around seven pillars of learning: effective communication skills in writing and presentation, knowledge of the fundamentals of the business functions, computer and information management literacy and skills, quantitative analytical ability, high standards of ethical and professional business conduct, responsible policy formulation, and demonstration of leadership. This well-rounded approach, along with ACBSP accreditation assures students that they are earning a top-notch business education.

Education

PSU business students have six undergraduate programs to choose from, including Accounting, Management, Sports Management, Business Administration, Finance, or Marketing. Graduate students can earn an MBA or Master’s of Science in Accounting. There are also a variety of graduate certificates available in Accounting, Health Care Administration, Strategic Marketing Management, and International Business.

Experiential learning plays an important role in the business curriculum at Plymouth State University. Integrated Clusters are implemented as a way to create community among a diverse field of studies. The Innovation & Entrepreneurship cluster encourages an enterprising mindset while designing solutions to a range of educational, social, commercial, and environmental problems. Students in this cluster are encouraged to learn by doing. This approach means that participants are encouraged to take risks, seek new and innovative opportunities, and embrace failure as a learning experience. Each major is connected to at least one cluster. However, students and faculty have the ability to participate in classes, projects, and open lab experiences with other cluster groups.

Internships are also an ideal way for students to take what they have learned in the classroom and apply it to a real business setting. The Morgridge Family Scholarship is a stipend offered twice a year to help students with the cost of participating in the internship program.

Student Life

Students at Plymouth State University have many opportunities to get involved on-campus. A few of the relevant organizations for business students include Accounting Society, Sports Management Club, MAPS-Marketing Association, Investment Club, and Enactus. Enactus is an international student organization that uses the entrepreneurial skill set to improve the quality of life of those in need.

The Delta Mu Delta Honors Society has inducted more than 1,000 members into the PSU chapter. This is an internationally acclaimed business honors society offered by invitation only to highly qualified candidates. The organization encourages a high standard of academic excellence of students at qualifying colleges and universities. This creates a community that benefits its individual members, as well as the business community through life-time membership.

An MBA in General Management can be completed in a convenient online format on a part-time or full-time basis.
