In 2013, the University of Bridgeport’s School of Business was renamed the Ernest C. Trefz School of Business. Ernest C. Trefz was a trustee of UB from 1980 to 2017. “His success as an entrepreneur aligned with the Ernest C. Trefz School of Business’s commitment to entrepreneurship, which includes an undergraduate minor in Entrepreneurship, an MBA concentration in Entrepreneurship, and the Student Entrepreneur Center.” Business students at the University of Bridgeport can expect to receive an up to date and high-quality business education that continues to carry on the legacy of Mr. Trefz.

Education

Trefz School of Business students at the University of Bridgeport have several top-notch programs to choose from. Undergraduates can earn an associate’s of Business Administration or bachelor’s in Accounting, International Business, Management Industrial Relations, Business Administration, Marketing, or Finance. At the graduate level, an MBA, M.S. in Analytical Systems, and M.S. of Finance can be obtained. Many of these programs are offered either partially or entirely online in order to accommodate the needs of learners at every stage of life. The Student Entrepreneur Center allows students to take what they have learned in the classroom and directly apply it to the development of a start-up company. This center is of no charge to students and is fully staffed with business professionals making it an excellent outlet for anyone looking to start their entrepreneurial journey.

Student Life

There are many ways for students to get involved at the University of Bridgeport. Community service plays an important role in building the community both on and off-campus. The Office of Campus Activities and Civic Engagement coordinates many activities that are focused on learning, fun, and helping others. A few of the community service opportunities that are put together by the University include working with local animal shelters, learning centers, and larger organizations like Girl Scouts of America. Clubs like Accounting Society, AIS Student Chapter, and Business Club all have active groups on campus. Students interested in participating in physical activities have many options through the Wheeler Recreation Center. The rec center works to improve student’s experience through intramural sports programs, wellness activities, and providing exercise equipment.

Online Programs

The School of Business includes an online Master’s of Business Administration with a quick turn around. Distance students can complete this ACBSP accredited program on a one year accelerated track. There are three areas of specialization in Analytics Intelligence, Human Resources, or Management. The core curriculum is balanced, covering fundamental business topics and skills like information literacy, decision making, and proficiency with technology. Those looking to complete their bachelor’s degree in a distance format can earn their BBA entirely online. Courses are completed in seven-week intervals with a goal of preparing students in the areas of general business knowledge, practical technical skills necessary for business professionals, effective communication, and understanding the role of business within society as a whole.
