The mission of the University of Southern Maine’s School of Business is to “prepare lifelong, entrepreneurial thinkers fluent in business technologies.” The University makes this mission highly accessible, with more than $12 million in scholarships and $18 million in grants available to students from all disciplines. Special interest scholarships, faculty nominated scholarships, external scholarships, and Promise Scholarships are allotted as well. USM is committed to helping students be successful with their studies while also preparing for their future careers. There are more than 100 professional development workshops offered each year to give students a professional edge as they enter the workforce.
Education
A Bachelor’s of Science can be earned in Accounting, Business Analytics, Finance, Marketing, Sport Management, or Business Management. Within the Business Management program, students can major in entrepreneurship and small business, general management, international business, risk management and insurance, and sustainable business. An MBA can be completed through the school of business with specializations in Engineering, Accounting, Business Analytics, Finance, Health Management and Policy, or Sustainability. The Master’s of Business Administration program is comprehensive and includes core courses on topics like International Finance, Managerial Marketing, Finance Engineering, and Introduction to Organizational Change.
Student Life
Diversity acceptance is a common goal on the USM campus. The Student Diversity Centers create a positive community for all students and support cultural activities and celebrations. The centers also offer programs that address critical issues on campus concerning race, ethnicity, culture, and more. Living and Learning Communities allow students to adjust to their first year on campus with a group of peers with similar passions. Group interests include Citizenship, Creativity, Entrepreneurship, First-Year Transition, Health, Honors, Rainbow Floor, Russell Scholars Program, and Social Justice.
The Office of Religious & Spiritual Life provides guidance for members of the University in religious and spiritual development. Interfaith respect, appreciation, and cooperation are also discussed. Interfaith programs give a common ground for students and staff to address community issues from religious and spiritual perspectives. Several student organizations offer activities and fellowship for those who share similar backgrounds of faith. Students have the option to participate in academic or non-academic internships. Both are a great way to learn the vital skills necessary for success after graduation.
Online Programs
Distance learners with a junior’s standing and a minimum 2.33 GPA at the University of Southern Maine can complete their Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration online. Students in the General Management track have the advantage of studying across multiple fields of business.
