Muhlenberg College, a private 4-year college is located in Allentown, PA – the historical heart of the iron industry and other industrial manufacturing activity. Founded in 1848 and named for Henry Melchior Muhlenberg, the German patriarch of the Lutheran Church in America, the school is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The compact campus sits on 81 acres in the western part of town and includes a distinctive dome and tower, the Miller Tower, which was inspired by the Christopher Wren-designed Tom Tower at Oxford University. The campus buildings are a blend of traditional collegiate architecture and contemporary designs. Among notable alumni is David Fricke, senior editor for Rolling Stone magazine.
